Abisko Aurora Lights Gleam from the Midnight Sky in Sweden
With the NASA announcing that the sun is starting a new solar cycle 25 for this winter season, locals and visitors to Abisko, Northern Sweden, have experienced some out of this world Aurora displays this week.
Is this a sign of what is to come this winter? Only time will tell, but it’s looking good for Aurora hunters!
The Solar Cycle lasts 11 years and plots more and less intense periods of activity on the sun, the same solar activity that causes Northern Lights displays which are predicted to increase in frequency and intensity over the coming years.
The solar minimum that marks the end of the previous cycle could have happened back in December 2019, Nasa said. But the variability of the Sun means that knowing for sure can take months to unfold.
