Why Turmeric?

Interestingly, it’s been about six years since Sebastian Pole, Medical Herbalist, and the co-founder of Pukka Herbs told me in an interview that we should all consume organic turmeric in our diets on a daily basis for its antioxidant protection and to promote vibrant health and longevity.  The most delicious way to consume it? His Organic ‘Golden Milk of Bliss recipe’.

Using turmeric as food as medicine in daily cooking is supported by the latest scientific research which reveals that turmeric is a wonder of nature. The spice that thrives in hot, arid countries such as India offers protection against inflammation and poor circulation and its effect on the body. Find out how you can incorporate turmeric into your daily diet by drinking organic turmeric tea, which has been shown to offer as much anti-oxidant protection as a bowl of blueberries. Smoothies and cold-pressed juices are another way to enjoy the health benefits from the super spice. But of all the recipes, this organic golden milk cup of Bliss is wonderfully comforting and especially good at bedtime, to aid restful sleep. In India, mums make golden milk to settle boisterous little ones.

Almond

This delicious nut is sweet to taste, heating, heavy and oily in quality. It builds, strengthens and has aphrodisiac qualities that boost fertility.

Nutmeg

Believed to ‘hold the energy in’, nutmeg is calming and helps to break the tiring sleep-awake-sleep-awake pattern of transient insomnia.

Cardamom pod

The aromatic essential oils in cardamom are used to help digest the highly nutritious fats in this replenishing elixir.

Ashwagandha root

This is one of nature’s greatest gifts – it helps us sleep well, therefore giving us more energy. Its Latin name is Withania Somnifera, alluding to its gentle soporific effects, which are accentuated when it’s used at night and with milk. Ashwagandha means ‘the smell of a horse’ – you won’t smell like a horse the next day, but you will wake with the grace, elegance, and vigour of one.

Saffron

One of the remarkable things about saffron is that the colourful pigments are both water- and fat-soluble meaning its depression-lifting, blood-circulating, aphrodisiac qualities are easily extracted and only small amounts are needed.

Turmeric root

A sprinkle of this golden magic helps bring warmth to your digestion and a little more life to your life. Because turmeric helps increase the flow of blood deep into your tissues and organs, it brings more nutrition and health to your whole body and mind.
